Visiting “Leung So Kee Umbrella”, a Famous Umbrella Factory for Century
Umbrella making was listed as one of the intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong. In order to help children understand more about the traditional handicrafts of Hong Kong, as well as appropriate the beauty of Chinese traditional culture, our school arranged K2 children too visit this old brand established in Hong Kong for over a century, Leung So Kee Umbrella Factory, understanding the materials and process needed to make an umbrella, so as to enhance their understanding of Chinese culture and art.
Children entered the store of Leung So Kee, feeling excited to see umbrellas in different colours. There were automatic foldable umbrellas, foldable umbrellas, automatic umbrellas, and umbrellas. Teachers opened the umbrellas one by one, showing children the print of the fabric, such as dog, bear, squirrel, owl and cat etc. They could not take their eyes off those umbrellas.
Thank Mr. Leung and Miss Leung, the store managers of Leung So Kee Umbrella Factory, again for their hospitality and introduction, helping children learn about the process of making umbrellas, and learn to appreciate the local traditional handicrafts. In the meantime, we would like to thank our parent volunteers for their assistance, so that the visit could go smoothly, enriching the learning experience of children, as well as fostering good parent-child relationships.
